Each year has its share of trends that either outlive them or fade away or should I say, chill in the corner, because the fascinating thing about trends is that they keep making a comeback. So trends that you feel are gone and forgotten may make a comeback a decade or two later. As we wrap up the first month of this new year, let us look at 10 fashion trends that had us in a chokehold in 2023.
Denim
Even though denim never goes out of style, 2023 had us adding some interesting spin to it. From denim trench coats to structured straight-leg jeans to reimagined denims, people actually got experimental with denim in 2023.
Front slit maxi skirt
I had a maxi denim skirt in the late 2000s. If I had known they would make a comeback I would have kept mine-see what I was saying earlier about fashion making a return? This trend was big in 2023.
Boots
Chunky boots had us showing off our stomps last year. We rocked the platform soles, the lug soles and the combat boots with style. Chunky boots called in 2023 and the streets and high fashion answered.
Leather
Just like denim, leather never goes out of style. It has been a timeless and versatile material in the fashion industry, and its popularity often evolves with new trends and style preferences. 2023 saw a revival of vintage leather styles from past decades.
Feathers
A little extra detail always makes an outfit stand out. That’s what feathers came to do in 2023. They took our dresses from bland to Hollywood royalty in an instant and we sure couldn’t get enough of it.
Cut-outs
We showed a little skin with cut-out dresses in 2023. Nothing speaks of sexy elegance like not showing too much skin. We wore them to date nights, to have drinks with friends and even to a chilled day on the beach.
Crocs
We were so heavy on Crocs in 2023 to the point where we took them from casual inside-the-house shoes to what we could practically wear everywhere.
Monochrome
Dressing in a single colour or different shades of the same colour, just makes you effortlessly classy. In 2023, this trend evolved with new interpretations and influences and we were there for the whole combo.
Cargo Pants
This fashion trend was taken to a whole new level last year. Cargo pants were taken from combat-ready, boyish-looking garments to chic fits that came in different fabrics and styles that could be paired with trainers or high heels. Did you ever imagine cargo pants with heels?
Loose Crop Top
Crop tops are designed to flatter any body type. They are fun and chic. Pairing them with baggy trousers works as well as pairing them with tight fitting ones. I prefer to pair mine with high-waisted loose pants.
2023 was for sure, a year of bold statements, conscious choices, and a celebration of diversity. We look forward to what 2024 will bring.
