CIBN ANNUAL BANKING AND FINANCE CONFERENCE: ACCELERATING NIGERIA’S ECONOMIC GROWTH

The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria’s 17th Annual Banking and Finance Conference commences today 10th September 2024 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja and will come to a close tomorrow. Our Group Chairman, Tony O. Elumelu, CFR will be delivering a keynote speech at the event on the theme, “Accelerated Economic Growth and Development: The State of Play and the Way Forward,” emphasising key areas that are crucial for Nigeria’s future economic growth.

In the keynote, the chairman will present a multi-faceted approach that focuses on three critical areas:

  • Access to Electricity: The crucial role of reliable electricity in accelerating Nigeria’s economic progress.
  • Security: Highlight the need for improved national security in order to boost food production, investment and trade.
  • Youth Entrepreneurship: A key part of the speech will be the need to support Nigeria’s youth in driving economic transformation, advocating for policies that incentivise young entrepreneurs and create a supportive environment for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to thrive.

Additionally, Mr. Elumelu will be speaking about the transformation of Nigeria’s banking sector, which has grown into a vital component of the economy, providing financial support to businesses and generating income for millions. He will also address the challenges the banking sector still faces, including regulatory and innovation constraints, despite the significant strides made by the sector.

To overcome these hurdles, the chairman will be speaking on the need for stronger collaboration between stakeholders, including government agencies, regulatory bodies, and banking institutions. By fostering an environment of dialogue and cooperation, he believes the sector can become more resilient, driving broader economic growth and supporting the aspirations of all Nigerians.

The keynote will outline a vision for a more secure, innovative, and dynamic Nigerian economy, with collaboration at its core.
