Can you share your journey at UBA, from when you started to where you are now, highlighting key moments or experiences that shaped your career path?
I began my career at UBA in 2018 as a graduate trainee, joining the transaction processing team with little knowledge of banking operations. Over the past six years, I have progressed to become the team lead of card production, overseeing a team responsible for resolving card-related issues and processing all card types issued by UBA in Nigeria and the Rest of Africa.
One of the most impactful experiences I had was during the onboarding process, where I received comprehensive training from experienced team members. Additionally, I had access to a wide range of online courses through the UBA academy, covering topics relevant to my role and other areas within the bank.
How have UBA’s culture and policies supported your professional growth and development since you joined the bank?
UBA has a strong reputation for fostering a culture that prioritizes employee development and advancement. Through the bank’s mentorship program, I transitioned from a novice graduate trainee to a proficient E-business specialist. The program paired me with a seasoned colleague who guided me through career challenges. UBA also emphasizes performance recognition, regularly acknowledging employees who demonstrate outstanding dedication and contributions. Moreover, UBA promotes diversity and inclusivity, allowing me to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and learn from their unique perspectives. The bank also emphasizes work-life balance, offering flexible work arrangements and team bonding activities, all while maintaining high service standards.
What specific opportunities or programs at UBA have helped you enhance your skills and advance in your career?
I have participated in numerous on-the-job training sessions, both locally and internationally, which have significantly improved my skills in E-business operations, particularly in card services. These experiences have also shaped my career trajectory towards becoming a product manager. Additionally, the early morning sessions held in the bank have deepened my understanding of customer service and other roles within the bank. Through active engagement in these programs, I have not only enhanced my skills and knowledge but also progressed in my career within the organization.
In your opinion, what sets UBA apart in terms of creating an enabling environment for women to thrive in the banking industry?
UBA is notable for fostering an environment where women can excel in the banking sector. The bank actively promotes the inclusion of women at all organizational levels, resulting in numerous women holding managerial positions. This inclusive approach provides younger and junior employees with opportunities for advancement. UBA also emphasizes equal pay for equal work and merit-based promotions, creating a fair and supportive environment for women to progress and succeed.
