The name comes from the word “liberty” and<br \/>\nrefers to the nation’s origin as a colony of free blacks repatriated to Africa<br \/>\nfrom the United States in the early nineteenth century. It is one of only two sovereign countries in the<br \/>\nworld that were started by citizens and ex-Caribbean slaves of a political<br \/>\npower as a colony for former slaves of the same political power. Liberia<br \/>\nis a nation rich with natural resources including iron ore, gold, diamonds,<br \/>\nnatural rubber, vast forest for logging and timber harvesting, and vast<br \/>\nagriculture land for ensuring food security<\/span>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ubagroup.com\/57-marina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/liberia-1024x731.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ubagroup.com\/57-marina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/liberia-1024x731.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"285\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><b><u><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">HISTORY<\/span><\/u><\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">From the start the<br \/>\nrepublic of Liberia is associated with the idea of freedom. The American<br \/>\nColonization Society, founded in 1817, has its aim, the settlement of freed<br \/>\nslaves in colonies where they can become self-sufficient. With that purpose in<br \/>\nmind agents from the society visit the West African coast south from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.historyworld.net\/wrldhis\/PlainTextHistories.asp?gtrack=pthc&ParagraphID=pkw#pkw\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Freetown<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">, where the British have<br \/>\nalready established just such a settlement.<br \/>\nIn 1821 the society acquires a coastal area, Cape Montserrado, by agreement with<br \/>\nlocal African rulers. The first freed slaves from America land here in 1822.<br \/>\nTwo years later the name Liberia is given to the region and the town developing<br \/>\non Cape Montserrado called Monrovia which was named after the US president of<br \/>\nthe day, James <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.historyworld.net\/wrldhis\/PlainTextHistories.asp?gtrack=pthc&ParagraphID=nct#nct\"><span style=\"color: black; font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; mso-themecolor: text1;\">Monroe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">. During the next twenty years<br \/>\nfurther settlements are established along the coast, until in the 1840s the<br \/>\nsociety concludes that the colony can now stand on its own. In 1847 it is<br \/>\nproclaimed an independent republic. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Economically the<br \/>\nregion’s rubber is of great benefit, particularly during World War II when<br \/>\nLiberia is one of the allies’ few reliable sources for this essential<br \/>\ncommodity. The export of rubber brings much improvement in the country’s<br \/>\ninfrastructure, with the development of roads, airports and a deep-water harbor<br \/>\nfor Monrovia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The war years also see the emergence in 1943 of a president who dominates<br \/>\nLiberian political life for three decades -William Tubman, a lawyer who<br \/>\nchampions the rights of Liberia’s majority of tribes\u2019 people against a small<br \/>\nself-perpetuating establishment of Liberians descended from the original<br \/>\nAmerican immigrants.<br \/>\n<span class=\"mdblk\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Tubman<br \/>\nand after-1944<b><\/b><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Tubman is elected<br \/>\npresident in 1943. He gives his country a much higher profile than before,<br \/>\ndeclaring war on Germany and Japan in 1944 – and in the same year becoming one<br \/>\nof the signatories of the declaration of the United Nations. After the war<br \/>\nLiberia plays an active role in UN and African affairs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ruling with an enlightened policy of social and educational reform, Tubman<br \/>\nremains a popular president. He is elected for seven successive terms and dies<br \/>\nin office in 1971. Tubman’s successor, William Tolbert, is killed in 1980 in a<br \/>\ncoup mounted by a master sergeant in the Liberian army, Samuel Doe. Doe<br \/>\nintroduces military rule but stands for election as president in 1985.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nDoe is captured and executed in 1990 at the start of a civil war involving at<br \/>\nleast three rival groups, among which the most powerful is the NPFL (National<br \/>\nPatriotic Front of Liberia) led by Charles Taylor. For seven years the country<br \/>\nis in turmoil, with a peacekeeping force from neighboring African nations often<br \/>\nengaged in active war against the NPFL. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Elections are held in<br \/>\nJuly 1997.<br \/>\nThe NPFL wins a majority of the seats in both the senate and the House of<br \/>\nRepresentatives. Charles Taylor becomes president with 75% of the vote. The<br \/>\nelections are judged by international observers to have been freely and fairly<br \/>\nheld, but President Taylor puts an end to any hopes of a return to democracy; ruling<br \/>\nby terror.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">On 11th August 2003,<br \/>\nTaylor succumbed to international pressure, handed power over to his vice<br \/>\npresident, Moses Blah, and sought asylum in Nigeria where he remained in exile<br \/>\nand was later taken to UN special court in Sierra Leone. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf<br \/>\nTakes Power<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">On 8 November 2006,<br \/>\nEllen Johnson-Sirleaf became president of the Republic of Liberia making her Africa’s<br \/>\nfirst woman head of state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><u><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', sans-serif;\">Liberian People<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ubagroup.com\/57-marina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/liberia2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ubagroup.com\/57-marina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/liberia2.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;\">The people of Liberia hailed from a varied<br \/>\nbackground. The earliest people were Mende tribes from Sierra Leone and other<br \/>\nWest African nations. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;\">There are<br \/>\n16 ethnic groups that make up Liberia’s indigenous population. Americo-Liberians<br \/>\nwho are descendants of freed slaves that arrived in Liberia early in 1821 make<br \/>\nup 2.5% of the population.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b><u><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;\">Society<br \/>\nand Culture<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ubagroup.com\/57-marina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/liberia3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ubagroup.com\/57-marina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/liberia3.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">The Liberian culture is<br \/>\nexpressed in music, literature, crafts, cuisine as well as heritage. The<br \/>\nLiberian culture consists of two distinct roots, the Southern US heritage of<br \/>\nthe freed Americo-Liberian slaves and the ancient African descendants of the<br \/>\nindigenous people and migratory tribes.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">A literary tradition<br \/>\nhas existed in Liberia for a long time. Authors Bai T. Moore, E.G. Bailey, <\/span><a title=\"Roland T. Dempster\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roland_T._Dempster\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Roland<br \/>\nT. Dempster<\/span><\/a><a title=\"Wilton G. S. Sankawulo\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wilton_G._S._Sankawulo\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\"> have all reflected on culture,<br \/>\ntradition, modernization and pain of exile, loneliness, lost and remembrance in<br \/>\nfiction, and nonfiction works. Liberia has her own ancient music and<br \/>\ninstruments. Drums, beaded gourd rattles called saasaa are also used in<br \/>\nmainstream music by many Liberian musicians. Jazz, funk, soul, rap and a new<br \/>\nmusic style or Liberian rap called Hipco combining rap, R&B, traditional<br \/>\nrhymes, and joint Liberian and American influences are part of the wider Music<br \/>\nof Liberia.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Liberia is renowned<br \/>\nfor its detailed decorative and ornate masks, large and miniature wood carvings<br \/>\nof realistic human faces, especially famous people, scenes of everyday life and<br \/>\naccessories often enlarged in sculptures. These are very unique to the Liberian<br \/>\nculture. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">The country-cloth-a<br \/>\nsoft hand-woven cotton textile that has natural dyes applied to produce a<br \/>\nfinished print fabric is unique to the nation\u2019s culture. It is made in the<br \/>\ninterior of Liberia (Lofa County). Traditionally Liberian country cloth was<br \/>\nhandspun, hand dyed and hand woven cotton, done in about four inch wide strips<br \/>\non a simple foot treadle loom.\u00a0 A standard bolt is about 36 yards<br \/>\nlong.\u00a0 The weaving pieces shown to the left are carved heddle pulleys,<br \/>\nheddles, batten and reeds, boat and spinning spindles. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Often the cloth was plain<br \/>\nwhite, but natural dyes like indigo and kola were used to dye the warp to<br \/>\ncreate linear stripes.\u00a0The weft was always left natural.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">The diverse tribal<br \/>\nethnicities making up the population of Liberia today have all added to the<br \/>\nrichness of cultural life in the country. Christian music is popular, with<br \/>\nhymns sung a-capella in the iconic African style. Spirituality and the region\u2019s<br \/>\nancient rituals are reflected in the unusually intricate carving style. Dance<br \/>\nis a valued heritage, with the Liberian National Culture Group giving<br \/>\nperformances both in the country and overseas based on traditional themes. The<br \/>\ngradual integration of all Liberia\u2019s ethnic groups has given rise to a renewed<br \/>\ninterest in its tribal culture as a reminder of the diverse roots of the new<br \/>\ncountry.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b><u><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;\">Governance<br \/>\n<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Liberia is still in<br \/>\ntransition from dictatorship and civil war to democracy. Liberia’s government<br \/>\nis based on the American model of a republic with three equal branches of<br \/>\ngovernment, though in reality the <\/span><a title=\"President of Liberia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/President_of_Liberia\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">President<br \/>\nof Liberia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\"> has<br \/>\nusually been the dominant force in Liberian politics. Following the dissolution<br \/>\nof the <\/span><a title=\"Republican Party (Liberia)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Republican_Party_%28Liberia%29\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Republican<br \/>\nParty<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\"> in 1876,<br \/>\nthe <\/span><a title=\"True Whig Party\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/True_Whig_Party\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">True<br \/>\nWhig Party<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\"><br \/>\ndominated the Liberian government until the 1980 coup; eventually creating what<br \/>\nwas effectively a <\/span><a title=\"One-party state\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/One-party_state\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">one-party<br \/>\nstate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Currently, no party<br \/>\nhas majority control of the legislature. The longest serving president in<br \/>\nLiberian history was <\/span><a title=\"William Tubman\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Tubman\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">William Tubman<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">, serving from 1944 until his<br \/>\ndeath in 1971. The shortest term was held by <\/span><a title=\"James Skivring Smith\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/James_Skivring_Smith\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">James<br \/>\nSkivring Smith<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">,<br \/>\nwho was interim president for all of two months. However, the political process<br \/>\nfrom Liberia’s founding in 1847, despite widespread corruption, was very stable<br \/>\nuntil the end of the First Republic in 1980.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;\">Between 1980 and 2006, <\/span><a title=\"Liberia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liberia\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;\">Liberia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;\"><br \/>\nwas governed by a series of military and transitional governments. <\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;\">In January of 2006, the current President who is<br \/>\nserving her second and final term was elected.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b><u><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;\">Economy<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', sans-serif;\">The Liberian economy had relied heavily on the mining of iron ore prior<br \/>\nto the civil war. Liberia was a major exporter of iron ore on the world market.<br \/>\nIn the 1970s and 1980s, iron mining accounted for more than half of Liberia’s<br \/>\nexport earnings. Since the <\/span><a title=\"Coup d'\u00e9tat\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coup_d%27%C3%A9tat\"><span style=\"color: black; font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; mso-themecolor: text1;\">coup<br \/>\nd’\u00e9tat<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', sans-serif;\"> of 1980, the country’s <\/span><a title=\"Economic growth\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Economic_growth\"><span style=\"color: black; font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; mso-themecolor: text1;\">economic<br \/>\ngrowth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', sans-serif;\"> rate has slowed down because of a decline in<br \/>\nthe demand for iron ore on the world market and political upheavals in Liberia.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', sans-serif;\">From 2007 to 2010 through 2011, the country’s external debt fell<br \/>\ndrastically.<\/span><br \/>\n<a title=\"Timber\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Timber\"><span style=\"color: black; font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; mso-themecolor: text1;\">Timber<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nand <\/span><a title=\"Rubber\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rubber\"><span style=\"color: black; font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; mso-themecolor: text1;\">rubber<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nare Liberia’s main export items since the end of the war. Liberia earns more<br \/>\nthan $100 million and more than $70 million annually from timber and rubber<br \/>\nexports, respectively.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Liberia has the<br \/>\nsecond-largest <\/span><a title=\"Flag state\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flag_state\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">maritime<br \/>\nregistry<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\"> in<br \/>\nthe world behind <\/span><a title=\"Panama\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Panama\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Panama<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">, with 3,500 vessels registered<br \/>\nunder its flag accounting for 11% of ships worldwide. This includes 35% of the<br \/>\nworld’s tanker fleet. Liberia earned more than $18 million from its maritime<br \/>\nprogram in 2000.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Liberia\u2019s economy had<br \/>\nbeen growing modestly, despite the global economic downturn, and the<br \/>\nInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) projects strong GDP growth through 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><u><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Tourism<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ubagroup.com\/57-marina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/liberia4-1024x723.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ubagroup.com\/57-marina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/liberia4-1024x723.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"281\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Liberia has many<br \/>\nbeautiful beaches, expansive tropical forest reserves, plant and wildlife<br \/>\ndiversity, access to deep sea fishing, and a friendly population that is<br \/>\nwelcoming to foreign guests.<br \/>\nHotels in and out of Monrovia are suitable for tourists; Safaris<br \/>\nare offered in the Sapo National Park and water sports are popular along the<br \/>\nmany beaches. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><u><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Banking<\/span><\/u><\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic', sans-serif;\">There are 9 banks licensed by the Central Bank of Liberia that are<br \/>\ncurrently operating in the Country. Largely isolated from the civil war<br \/>\nconflict, it\u2019s an interesting city to visit and has an un-adopted beach with<br \/>\nrough seas and good surf breaks.<\/span><br \/>\n<b><u><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Notable<br \/>\nPerson<\/span><\/u><\/b><br \/>\n<b><u><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">\u00a0President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf<\/span><\/u><\/b><u> <b><\/b><\/u><br \/>\n<b><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">The<br \/>\nworld’s first elected black female president and Africa’s first elected female<br \/>\nhead of state.<\/span><\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Ellen Johnson Sirleaf<br \/>\nwas born on October 29, 1938, in Monrovia, Liberia. A graduate of the College<br \/>\nof West Africa at Monrovia, she went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in<br \/>\naccounting from the Madison Business College in Madison, Wisconsin, a degree in<br \/>\neconomics from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master of Public<br \/>\nAdministration degree from Harvard University.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">After returning to<br \/>\nLiberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf served as assistant minister of Finance in<br \/>\nPresident William Tolbert’s administration. In 1980, Tolbert was overthrown and<br \/>\nkilled by army sergeant Samuel Doe. She went into exile in Nairobi, Kenya, as<br \/>\nwell as in the United States, where she worked as an executive in the international<br \/>\nbanking community.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">In1985, Johnson<br \/>\nSirleaf returned to Liberia and ran for a seat in the Senate, but when she<br \/>\nspoke out against Doe’s military regime, she was sentenced to 10 years in<br \/>\nprison. She served a partial sentence before moving to Washington, D.C. When<br \/>\nshe returned to her native country for a third time in 1997, it was as an<br \/>\neconomist, working for the World Bank and Citibank in Africa.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">After the Charles<br \/>\nTaylor regime in 2005, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was elected president in 2006<br \/>\nbecoming the first female elected head of state in Africa. There<br \/>\nare no fixed standards or practices as to how individuals are to behave in the<br \/>\nsociety. But tradition and culture have shaped people\u2019s behavior in some ways.\u00a0 <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">In the Liberian<br \/>\nsociety, women are highly respected and given high preferences. When in a gathering<br \/>\nwhere there are women and men, and seats are limited, women are given those<br \/>\nseats while men are required to stand. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Also, strangers are<br \/>\ngreeted with handshakes in society.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Traditionally, every<br \/>\ntribe or ethnic group has its own cultural values that are indoctrinated into<br \/>\nfamilies, incorporated into society, social groups and so forth that have<br \/>\nshaped people\u2019s behavior and practices in society.<\/span><br \/>\n<b><u><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Work<br \/>\nPractices<\/span><\/u><\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Labour Laws in Liberia<br \/>\nhave spell out clearly the work practices of the Country.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">The constitution and<br \/>\nlabour laws have provide equal treatment in respect of wages and conditions of<br \/>\nemployment for all Liberian; Article 18 of the constitution states that all<br \/>\nLiberian citizens are entitled to equal opportunity for work regardless of<br \/>\nreligion, ethnic background, color, creed, sex, place of origin or political<br \/>\naffiliation. It also provides that every employee shall receive equal pay for<br \/>\nequal work.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">Working hours are from<br \/>\n8-5 daily (Mondays-Fridays); maximum of 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif;\">For maternity, female<br \/>\nemployees have right to paid maternity leave of three months.
