Tony O. Elumelu, the Group Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) on April 1, 2023, attended the inaugural meeting of the steering committee of the United States Government’s “Gender Inclusion in the Digital Economy” initiative in Lusaka, Zambia at the invitation of the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris.
Elumelu’s attendance is a testament to his unwavering commitment to transforming Africa through a dynamic private-public sector approach. He championed this approach at the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit hosted by President Biden in Washington D.C. in December 2022.
He spoke with credibility, built on the impact record of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, his business successes, and his commitment to Africapitalism, which demonstrates how Africa can be transformed.
Elumelu welcomed the increased engagement of the US administration with Africa and stressed that the partnership should be based on equity and mutual respect. As one of Africa’s leading entrepreneurs, Elumelu sees common values between the entrepreneurially driven US economy and the opportunities in Africa, especially in creating an enabling environment to support Africa’s highly entrepreneurial youth.
Elumelu strongly advocates Africapitalism, stressing private-public collaboration for Africa’s economic growth
