Development Organizations, NGOs & Foundations
African countries have been recipients of foreign developmental assistance since their independence. These have come in the form of loans, grants and technical partnerships designed to promote economic development and the welfare of Africa. United Bank for Africa (UBA) is proud and privileged to serve and partner with the EMDO community through the provision of innovative and digital financial services.
As a global institution of Nigerian origin with pan-African footprint, it is our responsibility to support our clients and our communities for the social, economic, and environmental development of Africa. We will continue to invest in digital banking solutions to support the Global Development Organisations in their execution of development programmes on the African continent.
From foreign currency exchange and payment solutions to serving the last mile through mobile payments, cards and cash deliveries and distribution, we offer bespoke solutions to our valued clients. We also thrive on building long and lasting relationships and partnerships in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) for improved economic empowerment and financial inclusion within the continent.
Case Studies
Read more on UBA Embassies, Multilaterals, Development Organizations, NGOs and Foundations (EMDO) case studies
Case Study: Norwegian Refugee Council
As an extension of UBA’s commitment to the international community, we work with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Dakar, Senegal.
NRC is one of the largest independent humanitarian organizations, providing aid in 30 countries through saving lives and rebuilding the future for refugees.
UBA aids the organization’s efforts through foreign currency acquisition, account functioning, local transfers, international transfers, and digital solutions.
Case Study: Embassy of India in Brazzaville
As an extension of UBA’s commitment to the international community, we work with the Embassy of India’s Federal Government Office in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo.
The Indian Embassy in the Republic of the Congo is one of the five largest embassies in the country. UBA provides foreign currency acquisition, account functioning, term deposits, local transfers, international transfers, and digital solutions.
Case Study: UN Women
Emerging evidence on the impact of COVID-19 suggests that women’s economic and productive lives have been greatly affected across the globe. UN Women recently signed a contract with UBA in Nigeria to provide payment services for cash transfer projects in 10 Nigerian states, to households of targeted vulnerable women and girls that have been severely impacted by the pandemic.
As the organization’s payment services provider (PSP), UBA has commenced mass account opening for approximately 10,000 women beneficiaries in Nigeria and set up cash disbursement to the beneficiaries in two tranches.
This project will make a tremendous impact on the lives of women throughout Nigeria. These cash transfers will reduce the need for child labor, thereby increasing school attendance; increase the ability of women to make their own decisions on marriage and fertility; and reduce economic hardship throughout the country.
Case Study: British Council
British Council, the United Kingdom’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, has been working in Nigeria since 1943, providing networks, platforms and educators to young people throughout the country.
Prior to 2020, payments to British Council in Nigeria were made solely through bank checks and cash payments. UBA helped deploy an online payment system that enables candidates to pay their fees online and the organization to accept recurring payments through a customized system.
This solution, implemented in March of 2020, was the first successful customised solution for British Council in Africa. Following this successful campaign, British Council and UBA have agreed to rollout to an additional six African countries: Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Senegal, Kenya, and Zambia.
